Hindu Adelaide

The community in Adelaide

Hinduism is the fastest-growing religion in Australia. About 684,000 people identified as Hindu at the 2021 census, roughly half as many again as five years earlier, and India is now the second-largest country of birth for overseas-born Australians.

The South Asian community in Adelaide is strongest in Salisbury, Mawson Lakes, Parafield Gardens, Athol Park and Woodville, and the Hindu community gathers around the temples in Oaklands Park. Those are also the places a search on Rishta tends to start, though most members open theirs to the whole city and often to Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane too.

Hindu families here are asking about language, community, diet and how observant a household is, and often about horoscopes as well. Rishta puts those in the profile as fields rather than leaving them to a first phone call: religion and community are separate, mother tongue is its own filter, diet distinguishes vegetarian from eggetarian from non-vegetarian, and “no bar” is always an option. Photos stay private until she approves someone, which is the part that brings women here.

Built in, not promised

How Rishta works for Hindu families in Adelaide

Filters Hindu families here actually use: Mother tongue · Community, or no bar · Vegetarian / eggetarian · How observant · Family origin · Citizen, PR or visa.

Private by default
Her photos are hidden until she approves a specific person. Not a paid feature. Not a toggle she has to find.
She decides who can find her
Every woman chooses: visible to all verified men, only to men who match her preferences, or to nobody but her matchmaker. The default is preferences-only, and there are no public profile pages for anyone.
Verified or invisible
Government ID and a liveness check before anyone can search or be searched. Unverified accounts see nothing and are shown to no one.
No firehose
Every interest has to carry a written note, so nobody can bulk-send. Interests from outside her preferences wait in a separate folder that never notifies her. She can pause everything for a month without deleting anything.
A matchmaker, never from your city
Australian members are looked after by matchmakers based in Auckland and in other Australian cities, never their own. She will not run into you at a wedding. Free for women; on the Vichola tier ($199/month) she searches and approaches on a man’s behalf.

Questions Hindu families in Adelaide ask us

Is Rishta open in Adelaide?
Not yet. We open a city when there are enough verified women in it for introductions to be real, and Adelaide is on the list. Join the waitlist and we’ll tell you the moment it opens; nobody is charged while waiting.
How is this different from Shaadi.com for Hindu families in Adelaide?
Three ways. Every man shows government ID and passes a liveness check before he can search. Women decide who can find them, and their photos are hidden until they approve someone. And no phone number or email is ever displayed on a profile, at any membership level. There is a longer comparison at /rishta-vs-shaadi.
Do women pay?
No, and nothing is held back. Search, messaging, photo privacy and a matchmaker are all free for women, permanently. Men pay, because a platform where women actually reply is worth paying for.
Can my parents be involved?
Yes. Family can pay for a son’s membership, can see a Family View page you choose the contents of, and can speak to your matchmaker with your consent. What they can’t do is create or run a profile for someone who hasn’t agreed to it.
Can I filter by community and mother tongue?
Yes. Mother tongue, religion, community (with “caste no bar” always available), diet, family origin and residency status are all filters, and any of them can be a must-have.

A note from the founder

I spent six months on a paid plan on the biggest matrimonial site in the world, searching honestly for someone to marry from here. I found roughly ten men for every woman, a paid plan that produced nothing, and a fake profile I could make in minutes.

Rishta is what I wished had existed: women free with nothing held back, photos hidden until she says yes, every man verified, every interest written by hand, no phone numbers on the page, and a matchmaker who is never from your city. I built it because I am looking too.
